Zion National Park is a scenic and popular place for hiking, canyoneering, climbing, river trips, and seeing the amazing night sky filled with stars. It’s also a popular place to camp, and there are multiple camping options both right inside the park and in the surrounding areas as well.
Based on your camping style and how close to the park you want to be, here are some recommended options for the best camping near Zion National Park in Utah.
Zion Canyon Campground - Springdale, UT
The Zion Canyon Campground is Springdale, Utah’s only campground, and a private RV park with quite a few amenities. For RVs, there are full hookup sites available, while standard and riverside tent sites are also located here. Up to two pets are allowed per RV site, but pets are not allowed in the tent sites. In total, there are 131 powered RV spots and 15 tent sites. Amenities available include a playground, pavilion, laundry facilities, BBQ grills, and camping supplies for sale. This campground is run by a family that also operates a couple of hotels in the area.
South Campground - Springdale, UT
If you want to stay right inside Zion National Park, there are a few different camping options, including the South Campground. This camping area is a half-mile from the South Entrance at Springdale and near the visitor center. This is a campground with 117 total sites but none with electrical hookups. Some of the sites are only available for tents and on a walk-in basis. The South Campground is open year-round and offers seasonal potable water and a dump station. Flush toilets are available year-round; however, there are no showers. The cost of a tent campsite here is $20, and there are group campsites also available for $50.
Lava Point Campground - Virgin, UT
Another campground right inside Zion National Park is the Lava Point Campground, which is usually only open between May and September. It’s perched up high at 7,890 feet elevation and off the Kolob Terrace Road and 25 minutes north of Virgin, Utah. You’ll need to drive about an hour and 20 minutes from the south entrance of Zion Canyon to reach this campground. But once you arrive, you’ll find six primitive campsites that are available for reservation. Vehicles must be less than 19 feet long to come to the campground, which has pit toilets and trash cans but no water.
Watchman Campground - Springdale, UT
The Watchman Campground is a popular option for visitors to Zion because this destination has electrical hookups for RVs. There are 176 total sites here – 95 with electrical hookups, 65 for RVs only, and 69 for tents only. This convenient campground is right next to the visitor center and a quarter-mile from the south entrance of the park. It’s open year-round and requires reservations. The campground has flush toilets that are open year-round but with no showers.
Zion Crest Campground & RV Park - Springdale, UT
You’ll be just outside the eastern boundary of Zion National Park when you book a campsite at Zion Crest Campground & RV Park. This campground is part of the Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, which offers additional dining and recreation. The campground itself offers both RV camping and tent camping, as well as bathrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. The RV area has full hookups and back-in sites with room for multiple slide-outs. Meanwhile, the larger resort area has a pool, jacuzzi, and restaurant. To book your site, you can either call the office or make an online reservation.
Zion Wildflower Resort - Virgin, UT
If you’re not into roughing it and are interested in more of a glamping experience near Zion, consider the Zion Wildflower Resort. This unique property offers luxurious glamping accommodations, including feather-top beds, modern bathrooms, and air conditioning. Here, you can stay in a romantic canvas tent, pioneer-style covered wagon, or private bungalow with all the comforts of a hotel room. There are entertainment options on site, such as hammocks and yard games. Then when you’re ready to check out Zion, the park is just 15 minutes away.
Zion River Resort RV Park & Campground - Virgin, UT
Another local option is the Zion River Resort RV Park & Campground, which offers RV sites and cabins just minutes from Zion National Park. It provides easy access to nature and is along the Virgin River. This is a family-friendly resort with a swimming pool, clubhouse, gazebo kitchen, and playground. It has fun events scheduled throughout the year and lots of amenities, including a business center, free internet, a charcoal grill with tables, and big-screen TV with new-release movies. Pets are welcome here, and there’s even an off-leash dog park onsite. During the spring and summer, stop by the ice cream shop for a sweet treat!
Zion Wright Family Ranch - Virgin, UT
At the Zion Wright Family Ranch, you can get off the beaten track and find a tranquil space to wake up in Southern Utah. This is a family-owned campground that has been in the family for six generations and that offers camping and horseback tours. People of all ages and skill levels can go horseback riding here for a memorable experience. The campground is 30 minutes from Zion National Park, so you’ll be away from the crowds but still in a convenient place. If you don’t feel like roughing it, there are also glamping opportunities in a yurt or fully stocked rental RV.
Hi-Road Campground - Mount Carmel Junction, UT
Another campground with glamping opportunities is the Hi-Road Campground, which offers 400-square-foot tiny cabins with upscale amenities. The property is less than a mile from the east entrance of Zion National Park. There are 20 total cabins here that start at a rate of $175 per night. These rustic, yet luxurious, cabins have all the comforts of home, such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, microwaves, full bathrooms, and beds. Pets are allowed in some of the cabins. In addition to the cabins, there are also tent sites available at the Hi-Road Campground.
Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort - Orderville, UT
The Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort is known for camping, jeep tours, canyoneering, hiking, and horseback riding. It’s on the east side of Zion National Park and has eight different lodging options available: cabin suites, vacation homes, glamping, deluxe glamping, Conestoga wagons, cowboy cabins, RV camping, and tent camping. Bryce Zion Campground - Glendale, UT
Just five miles north of the town of Glendale, Utah, you’ll find the Bryce Zion Campground, which typically opens for the season on May 1. This camping option offers RV sites, tent camping, and cabin camping. It’s a fun place to be when you want to check out multiple places in the broader region, including Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. You’ll be at a cool 6,500 feet elevation and also have access to a stocked camp store, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and hot showers. Your campground hosts are the Lamb Family, which has run the campground since 1981.
Zion View Camping - Hildale, UT
This Hildale, Utah campground lets you explore the Zion area in a unique way by glamping. Zion View Camping offers big tents, water, bathrooms, showers, grill supplies, and a real bed to sleep in. It’s less than an hour from Zion National Park and is near the Utah/Arizona border. Other things nearby are Bees Marketplace, Beans & Brews, and Edge of the World Brewery. Various tents and wagons are available to rent here to make your stay a special one. There are also little perks that you’ll enjoy during your stays, such as free Wi-Fi and freshly brewed coffee every morning.
St. George/Hurricane KOA - St. George, UT
There is also a KOA campground in the Zion area known as St. George/Hurricane KOA. This campground offers pull-through RV sites with 50-amp service and premium tent sites. There is a seasonal pool onsite, as well as a dog park, mini-golf, snack bar, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and firewood for sale. Stay at this family-friendly camping destination to be in a central location that is accessible to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon.
Navajo Lake Campground - Cedar City, UT
Located in nearby Dixie National Forest, you can stay at Navajo Lake Campground along the shores of the lake. This is an ideal place to be for fishing, boating, hiking, and photography. There are 12 standard campsites here that have picnic tables and fire rings. There are also 11 walk-in tent sites and four double sites available. Flush toilets, garbage, and drinking water are available here. The sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cost $21 for single units. With views of Zion National Park, the Pine Valley Mountains, and the Kolob Plateau, the Navajo Lake Campground is open from late May through mid-September.
Zions West RV Park - St. George, UT
Here’s a year-round RV park that is in a quiet, country setting and centrally located in Washington County. When you stay at the Zions West RV Park, you can easily visit Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Snow Canyon, Quail Lake State Park, and Red Cliffs. Meanwhile, the city of St. George is just 10 minutes away. The campground offers free Wi-Fi and cable TV, clean restrooms with hot showers, a laundromat, and 30/50 amps at all the sites. Daily, weekly, and monthly rates are available for RVs, and there are also tent sites available here starting at $25 per night. In total, there are 36 full hookup sites and 20 pull-throughs.
Spruces Campground - Cedar City, UT
Located 25 miles east of Cedar City on Highway U-14, the Spruces Campground is part of the Dixie National Forest and not too far from Zion. It’s on the shores of Navajo Lake and just half a mile from the Virgin Rim River Trail. Spruces Campground has 24 standard campsites, one double site, three walk-in tent sites, and a day-use area. Flush toilets, drinking water, and garbage disposal are available here. You can make a reservation online for some sites, while others are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of a single site is $21, and dogs are welcome here on a leash.
