Whether you’ve dreamed of what it would be like to be a mermaid and sleep underwater or really like unique once-in-a-lifetime experiences, Jules Undersea Lodge is a must-see. Located in Key Largo Undersea Park, Jules’ is the only underwater hotel in the United States.
Named after author Jules Verne’s novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Jules’ Undersea Lodge is a tribute to the human quest for exploration and adventure. So much so that you must scuba dive 21 feet to find the entrance of this unique hotel. Many celebrities have hoped to stay at Jules’, such as Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Tim Allen—to name just a few.
Originally a research laboratory, this original underwater habitat and the artificial reef are situated in a lush mangrove in Florida’s Emerald Lagoon. Wowing guests since 1986, here you will find a plethora of underwater marine life and waters filled with brightly colored reef fish such as angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, and snappers that can be seen from inside the hotel.
The first underwater research lab accessible to the average person, Jules’, provides unlimited tanks when you stay overnight, allowing guests the opportunity for endless exploration adventures.
Completely submerged underwater, Jules’ Undersea Lodge stays intact because it is filled with compressed air to prevent it from filling with water. With a “moon pool” entrance, a wet room for scuba gear, and an air-conditioned living space, Jules’ ensures you are comfortable during your stay.
You’ll find two private bedrooms and an eight by twenty-foot standard room with a telephone, intercom, VCR/DVD, and music player. You probably won’t need these entertainment amenities with the breathtaking 42-inch round windows in each room where you can stare into the abyss of the deep waters and marine life.
Monitored 24 hours a day by a Command Center at the lagoon’s edge, the staff is available for requests throughout your stay. Guests can book the luxury package for a unique “mer-chef” that will scuba dive down to prepare you a gourmet dinner or have a laid-back evening with hot pizza delivered.
In addition to a chance to sleep overnight with the fishes, Jules also offers SCUBA training sessions, Open Water certifications, and an opportunity to learn more about marine biology through Distinctive PADI Specialties. If you’re already certified and don’t want to stay overnight, you can also pop in for a lunch break or take a 3-hour adventure tour exploring the lagoon.
