Located in the quiet town of Safety Harbor lies one of the most unexpected attractions, a vibrantly colored house decorated by two colorful artists. Pass the brick-lined streets and towering moss-covered oaks and you’ll discover this hidden gem called Whimzeyland nestled amongst a residential area.
You wouldn’t expect it in this quiet town that sits just 30 minutes outside of Tampa. Bursting with bright, happy colors and gardens created out of recycled items like colored bottles, take a walk along the rainbow mosaic tiles to discover a landscape like you’ve never seen in the Sunshine State.
The property was originally called the “Bowling Ball House” due to the over 500 painted bowling balls that are peppered around the property. Arranged in piles and winding along the flower beds, the bright smiley faces painted on the bowling balls make it impossible not to delight in the array of colors. You’ll even find a small gallery where bowling balls are decorated and donated by other artists.
It’s hard to focus on just the bowling balls, however, as the kaleidoscope of colors and architectural embellishments will keep you on your toes. From blue bottle trees to the murals of star fields and rainbows and lush foliage, there is something to see around every corner. Created by two artists, Todd and Kiaralinda, they have meticulously spent two decades creating this larger-than-life piece of art.
The artists welcome visitors to come and wander around their unique property and appreciate the explosion of colors that surround you. Located near downtown Safety Harbor, Whimzeyland is a one-of-a-kind attraction. They also own an equally as whimsical Mexican-themed guesthouse called Casa Loco, a perfect place for creative types to stay in the area.
