Many people know Flagstaff, Arizona as the gateway to Grand Canyon National Park. But there are many more reasons to camp here too, including the beautiful forests, fun downtown area, and abundance of outdoor activities to try. Flagstaff is also conveniently located just off of Interstate 40, which makes it a popular place to camp overnight while on a road trip.

Black Barts RV Park

Black Barts is a great place to camp with your RV or tent if you’re looking for a convenient location and onsite entertainment too. There are 175 RV sites here available for daily and monthly rates, as well as tent sites for up to three nights. The RV park has full hookups, a general store, a laundromat, and a famous on-site restaurant. Black Bart’s Steakhouse, Saloon, & Musical Revue features a talented waitstaff that performs songs and dances for diners. You’ll get high-quality beef here, as well as BBQ chicken, pasta, salads, and seafood. The music starts nightly at 5:30 pm and really makes this RV camping experience a unique one!

Flagstaff KOA Holiday

There is also a KOA campground in Flagstaff, the Flagstaff KOA Holiday. This camping destination is among ponderosa pine trees and offers RV sites, deluxe cabins, authentic teepees, and tent sites. You’ll also find laundry facilities, restrooms, onsite groceries, and bike rentals here. Kids will enjoy barrel train rides, movie nights, a jumping pillow, and a playground here during the summer months. The Kit Carson RV Park is close to downtown Flagstaff and easily accessible from I-17 and I-40. There are about 250 total RV, tent, and extended stay campsites at this park. Amenities offered include full hookups, restrooms, laundry facilities, a dump station, mailboxes, RV storage, and pet-friendly accommodations with some restrictions. The daily rates for RVs start at $55 with discounts for seniors, while tent sites are $40 and have a three-day maximum stay.

Woody Mountain Campground and RV Park

Another option is to stay at the Woody Mountain Campground and RV Park, which welcomes both RVs and tents. It offers a fun family atmosphere and has an onsite restaurant called the Last Haul Smoke & Grill, which serves breakfast and lunch. This is a nice place to call your home base when you want to get out and explore the Flagstaff area’s national parks and monuments, hiking, boating, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Additionally, this camping spot has boutique motel rooms that you can stay in. J & H RV Park

The J & H RV Park welcomes campers for a single night or even a month-long stay in Flagstaff. It has age restrictions and is a non-smoking campground. This is a 55+ park with a secondary age limit of 30, so it is popular among senior travelers. You’ll be away from all the city noise and enjoy Sunday potlucks, beautiful landscaping, and Wi-Fi at all of the sites. However, the RV park does not allow tents or motorcycles. Other features of the park include a gift shop, laundry facilities, paperback book swap, horseshoes, and an outdoor group fireplace. Daily rates are around $70 per night.

Fort Tuthill is a recreation area in the Coconino National Forest. It offers lodging, an RV park, and outdoor adventures that you can enjoy. The Fort Tuthill RV Park has water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. The camping sites are at the back of the recreation area and near hiking trails. There is a dump station and bathhouse available to campers. This is an affordable campground at just $20 to $30 for RV sites and $10 to $20 for tent/van sites. Lodging is also available onsite at the 20-room hotel, rustic A-frame houses, cabins, and yurts.

Lakeview Campground

There are several campgrounds in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, including the Lakeview Campground. This campground is typically open between the end of April and the beginning of October due to the weather. It is accessible via the 0.5-mile Wood Memorial Trail or by car. The campground is near numerous lakes and hiking trails. It offers fishing opportunities and is popular among boaters. You’ll love the easy forest and lake access here and also the wildlife viewing opportunities to see bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, elk, and other native animals. Campsites here cost $24 per night. There are no RV hookups, but drinking water and vault toilets are available.

Canyon Vista Campground

Another Coconino National Forest campground to check out is the Canyon Vista Campground near Walnut Canyon and Lower Lake Mary. This area is beautiful and filled with a mix of trees and interesting geology. Campers enjoy views of the San Francisco Peaks and easily access the Sandys Canyon Trail and the Vista Loop Trail at the north end of the campground. You can also get to “The Pit” rock climbing area from here. This campground is typically open from late April to early October. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cost $22 per night. Drinking water and vault toilets are available, but no full hookups.

Lake Mary Country Store and Trailer Park

The Lake Mary Country Store and Trailer Park offers RV camping in Flagstaff and has been family-owned and operated since 1976. RV sites are available year-round and offer full hookups with 30/50-amp service. Most spaces have concrete slabs and sheds, while laundry facilities are also onsite. Boat rentals are available onsite, as well as rentals for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards for half days, full days, and 24-hour periods. There is also an Airbnb rental home available onsite if you don’t feel like “roughing it.”

Pine Grove Campground

You can stay at the Pine Grove Campground if you want to be out in nature during your time in the Flagstaff area. This Coconino National Forest Campground is near multiple lakes and is great for fishing. It is also a popular spot for windsurfing and wildlife watching. The city of Flagstaff is about 20 miles away from this campground, which is open from late April through early October. You can reserve some of the sites in advance. The sites cost $26 per night, and the campground also offers showers, a dump station, a picnic/day-use area, and flush toilets. There is a 14-day stay limit at this 46-site campground.

Tappen Springs and Pine View RV Park

If you are affiliated with the military, you might consider staying at the Pine View RV Park or Tappen Springs primitive campground at Camp Navajo. This camping area is typically open from late April through mid-October. You will need to show a valid military ID to stay here. Tappen Springs’ no-hookup sites are just $5 per night, and RVers can use the dump station near the Pine View RV Park. The Pine View RV Park has more developed RV sites for $20 per day and tent sites for $12 per day.

Bonito Campground

Bonito Campground is along the  Sunset Crater Volcano-Wupatki Scenic Drive Loop Road and is named for the Bonito Lava Flow that ran across this area over 900 years ago. This convenient campground is a great place to be to check out the national monuments and take a tour. This campground typically closes in October, like the other Coconino National Forest campgrounds. The sites here are $26 per night and include access to flush toilets and drinking water. There are no RV hookups here.

Munds Park RV Resort

Located just outside Flagstaff, Munds Park RV Resort is a welcoming place to camp that can accommodate big rigs, park models, and seasonal residents. It is open from April through October and has a restaurant/bar on the property. There are off-road trails to enjoy nearby, as well as a recreation hall that features live bands, line dancing, and bingo. In the summer, you can enjoy the large swimming pool and heated spa. The RV Park also has a fitness center with treadmills, ellipticals, and weights. You can go into the onsite convenience store if you need some essential supplies as well. Munds Park RV Resort is located about 25 miles south of Flagstaff and is a nice area to be in if you want to visit the Sedona area too.
