There’s an Oktoberfest celebration in trendy-yet-traditional downtown Boise, held on 6th and Main streets to be exact. Sometimes landing at the tip end of September, the German-themed festivities fulfill all the requirements to be noted as one heck of a great party. There’s an emphasis on family, which makes us particularly fond of this Oktoberfest—you can come with the kids and focus more on the games and eats, or let loose with friends and Uber home.
We have to start with the beer because obviously that’s a huge component of any Oktoberfest. Boise has a prominent booze scene, so it makes sense that they would showcase lots of local brews, but then you also have a variety of imported German selections available. You’ll find Spaten, Hacker Pshorr Oktoberfest, Paulaner, Warsteiner, Odell Oktoberfest, Payette Oktoberfest, Sockeye Socktoberfest, Angry Orchard Hard Cider, Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest and Widmer Portland Pilsner, as these have been featured during past celebrations. With admission comes a commemorative mug from which thou may sip the frothy brew.
What’s a great beer without awesome food pairings? It’s essential. Old Boise maintains a consistent theme of solid, out of the box Bavarian foods like German potato salad, pretzels, schnitzel and Schweinbraten, a pretzel bun sandwich with brie cheese, onion spread, tomato and lettuce.
To elaborate on the family friendliness of this event, kids score free admission. In the kid’s zone, there’s face painting, a variation of games, and some pretty cool prizes and such. Everyone can enjoy downtown and munch on authentic food while letting the kids have fun. Some grown-up games, like a Brat Toss, Men’s Stein Hoisting, Women’s Stein Hoisting, and Pretzel Pass accompany the fantastic array of German and modern live tunes!
